School Record

She looks innocent, doesn't she?

That's what we thought.

Then last week, we received a letter in the mail from her school, informing us that our kindergartener was habitually truant, and in violation of Education Code 48260.

According to the principal, who signed the notice, Jolie's attendance is so deficient, that if we "continue to fail to meet (our) obligation, (we) will be guilty of an infraction of the law, and subject to prosecution pursuant to Education Code 48290-48296."

And then, she levied the following shocking allegations:

Four days. With family. Egregious!

Thank goodness for that notice. Reading it caused us to realize that we're about to move three thousand miles away from family. We responded by pulling Jolie out of school for two more days to go to Redlands and play with her cousins.

If having a 5-year old habitual truant is wrong,

We do not want to be right.

Mug shot Jolie! Can there be a more contradictory picture?? Hilarious! Good for you sticking it to The Man like that. I agree-- family is way more important than any old school codes.

I love that you made her take a mugshot. Love it!

And I love that they actually put that on the letter!! We got one of those for Drew last year. *sigh* Disneyland was bad to our attendance record!

I'm definitely adding this to Jolie's list of accomplishments that I'm extremely proud of!

I enjoyed this one all too much! You see I got one of these for Brennan, except for more absences than 4! And low and behold...he has been taken out an additional half day for a baseball game with dad and will be out a day next week for family camping! =) Family is just more imporantant, especially when he does a week's worth of make up work in a couple of recesses. Good luck on your move!

I wouldn't want to be right either. I am printing that first photo of Jolie and hanging it in my house, it is to die for! Love the mug shot too.

Rebel! I am dreading being tied down for elementary school, starting this year. You crack me up. Maybe someday I can have half your comedic wit.

Forget BYU. She'll never catch up on all that quality education she missed those four days.

Ridiculous.

Boy she is looking more and more like a hardened criminal with those blonde curls and white dresses.

Those mugshot photos . . . amazing.

It's a good thing the school cracked down. Hopefully it will steer her away from a life of crime.

First, thank you for taking mugshots of your daughter.
Second, truancy is a gateway crime.
Third, I let my child stay home the other day because it was cloudy, but I've had enough experience with threatening letters from the school to know I should write "sick" on his excuse note, rather than "cloudy". Won't make that mistake twice.

Really? The kindergartner police have it out for JoJo?? Really?! Shame on them. Why bother when they have to know she could easily pass second grade without breaking a sweat? Shoot... (and to think travis rountinely steals millions while he lounges on beautiful beaches around the world. Too bad other enforcement angencies aren't as vigiliant!)

You're the best blogger in the universe, AND you stick it to the Man on a daily basis? I love you, Katie Erb.

This is how it starts. This is only the beginning.

Honestly, you should start keeping track of everyday the principal is out of the office.

The mug shot is priceless. I fully support leaving school for family. We had to take our family vacations in October.

P.S. If your sister in Redlands hasn't discovered El Burrito, then she is seriously missing out on life. I grew up on those burritos! (Long before Rosa Maria's came along!) It is the best dive you will find!

I think the school should look at Jolie's absences as a gift. Aren't teachers just totally overloaded with all they have to accomplish in a year? I'm reminded of the way congressmen give their talking time to another congressman who needs it more. "Madam Teacher, I concede my instructional time to the gentleman from the third row who doesn't yet speak English."

Katie, I love catching up on your blog. I HAD to comment on this blog entry. As the office manager in an elementary school, we actually send out these letters too! It's horrible. Even my principal hates doing it. The letters are mandated by state regulation. And they are totally offensive. But the mug shots--priceless. Sooo funny. You made my day/night! ~Michelle (Whitney's mom)
