Marry a Nerd

.
When it came to love and dating, my dad had one piece of advice for his daughters.
He used to always say:

"When you grow up girls, marry a nerd."
.
When we asked why, he would say:
.
"Because. Nerds make the best husbands."
.
Last week, Jack came home with an anniversary card from the campus bookstore.
Inside, in his neat handwriting, was this bit of hot romance:

.
---------------------

.Set: r(t) = 6*cos(6*t)
and
#Points = 250
Click Plot

Then Set: r(t) = 6*(1-sin(t))
and
# Points = 250
Click Plot

with instructions to visit the Polar Equations Applet at:

--------------------

.
Confused, I typed in the address,
set my function (?),
entered my points (??),
and activated the polar plotter (???).

The result was this:
.
.

.

and this:

.

.

He was so proud.

Then suddenly panicked, because I actually started to cry. He thought I was crying because it was nerdy.

I was.

  2. that's too great. When Taylor and I were dating, one day I found in my purse a small bar of ceramic created in the lab that had written on it "I'm thinking about you everyday, even at work!"...Nerdy? definitely. I still keep it on my nightstand.

  6. This post gave me a HUGE smile. But really, Katie, I heeded dad's advice better than you did. Case in point? Richard's new glasses. I need to do a post on them. I will! I will!

  9. hooray for nerds! nice going Jack. haha. That reminds me about when Jerry gave me flowers on the 100th day of marriage, because he told me "100 is a very important number in the metric system".

  11. That is so cute! How come my husband doesn't do things like that for me?

Your dad never gave me that advice. But in a sense, he did. When I was dating Jeff, I had a one-on-one conversation with Jim. He told me, "Dawn, Jeff's a nerd." Later on in the conversation he told me "You don't want to date Jeff, he's too ugly."

    hilarious.

  14. My husband needs to take a lesson. While we've made some progress, we're still working on appropriate gifts and expressions of love/gratitude.

Our first Valentines Day after we got married he got me a bag of Swedish fish, which he thoughtfully presented in a grocery bag (no card). He then proceeded to eat said fish, leaving none for me.
