Letter of the Law

Several months ago our Jolie developed a sudden, inexplicable preference for the right, versus the left, side of things.

I say preference. I mean obsession.

She refuses to sit on the left side of the double stroller. She won't sleep on the left side of the bed. When she climbs into her carseat she has to be reassured that it's installed on the right side of the car (Yes Jolie, just like it was yesterday. And the day before. And the day before that).

At first this was cute. Then curious. Then it started to drive me crazy.

One day while trying to buckle the girls into their stroller I couldn't take it anymore. "Jolie, left OR right. Just SIT down. IT DOESN'T MATTER."

She climbed in with a quiet little "But Mom," answer...

Oh my goodness, MELT MY HEART. Does she think I am wrong since I am a lefty? Left is Right for me, but wrong for JoJo.

Sometimes, you just have preferences! Way to go Jolie, way to make right choices!

It's hilarious that she's so literal. I seriously don't think I knew left from right when I was her age. I think I was a little slow.

I need to have Gillian come over more often to learn these principles. My kids seem to choose the left more often than not...

Your daughter is 3 going on 16 Kate. You better hold your breath when they get up during testimony meeting.

Gio is obsessed with the right too. He is constantly asking me if he is sitting in the chair on the right, if this is his right shoe, etc. I wonder if he knows about choosing the right? I'll ask him in the morning. That would be a great mystery solved.

Funny girl. She is much smarter than me at her age. I had to look down at my hands and find the one with a mole on it. Only THEN did I know what was my right.
